Hakim Shamsul Huda (1957-2008) was a trailblazer in the field of Unani medicine and a respected industrial entrepreneur. Born on January 7, 1957, in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, his journey was defined by passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the betterment of human health.

Early Life and Career

Hakim Shamsul Huda took his first step into the business world in 1977, establishing Hasib Medical Hall in Rajshahi alongside his younger brother, Md. Maksumul Huda. His exposure to pharmaceutical products and herbal medicines sparked a deep interest in the transformative power of natural remedies. Recognizing the potential of herbal medicines in healthcare, he delved into learning the intricate processes of herbal medicine manufacturing.

Encouraged by his parents, Late Nurul Huda and Late Hamida Khatun, he began extensive research into Unani medicine. Driven by the goal to innovate treatments for common diseases in Bangladesh, he applied for and secured a manufacturing license for Shahi Laboratories (Unani) in 1985.

Establishment of Shahi Laboratories

In 1985, Hakim Shamsul Huda laid the foundation of Shahi Laboratories, beginning medicine production on his own land. His vision and tireless efforts, supported by his brother’s dedication, enabled the creation of effective herbal medicines.

To enhance his expertise, he enrolled in Tibbia Habibia College, Dhaka, where he earned his DUMS certificate in 2004. By 1994, he had introduced tablet and capsule production alongside syrup formulations, investing in advanced machinery to expand the laboratory’s capabilities.

Through innovative research, he developed Pilestab, a side-effect-free remedy for piles, in 1999—a testament to his dedication to providing quality healthcare solutions.

Contributions and Achievements

Hakim Shamsul Huda was an active member of the medical and business communities:

  • Executive Committee Member (1984-2005): Bangladesh Chemist & Druggist Samity, Rajshahi.
  • Executive Committee Member (2005-2007): Bangladesh Unani Medicine Industry Association.

His work and ethical practices earned him immense respect from contemporaries, regulators, and young entrepreneurs alike.
